"It reminded me of another time, long before Covid, when I had been asked by one of our customers whether we had run an early supply truck to a guy’s competitor that day. Well, I wouldn’t have lied anyway, but it was clear that this guy knew we had, they were distinctive trucks. I told the truth and when I got back to the shop I was called into the office. I told the boss what I was asked and what I said.
“Why didn’t you just tell him, ‘No?’
My response: “I don’t lie in my personal life and that comes with often having to face some harsh music. I damn sure will not lie for you.”
“I’m not asking you to lie, or anything,” he said.
“What part of me saying ‘no’ would have been the truth?”
He just sat there. The guy didn’t even know what the truth was, much less whether it had been told or not."
Well written and very timely Mr. Davis. "...all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed." Jefferson had it right then and it is so today. While the populace then may not have been formally educated, generally speaking, they were not inundated with the continuous salvos and barrages of destructive distractions of every kind. While we have formal "free" public schools, there is/they are infested with subversive communism, deliberately undermining and sabotaging the true foundational principles our society is/was based on. Events, incidents, even the open speech of elected officials who swore a Constitutional oath of fidelity are ever becoming louder more overt and obvious in their termite-like destructive energy. I am concerned that people will not gain a sober awareness fast enough. Even when the evils become insufferable will there be time enough to take corrective measures? I am getting more skeptical.
Do not lie. Ever. You will make people angry for not saying the lie they want to hear. They'll get over it. And it they don't, well, do you want them around?
I've been told I'm "brutally honest". I'm not. I just tell the truth as I see it. I don't get invited to many parties.
The truth is not just something we choose to reveal in conversations, it is a living thing that binds us together, ie reality. We live it.
To deny this, to obfuscate, pervert, weaponize, or coerce is to refract our shared reality into a million relative realities locked in conflict.
Dissonance.
As individuals, our lies - or even our submission to the lies of others, levies cognitive taxes, increasingly costly and burdensome mental and spiritual tolls that rob us of our generative strength.
They fracture our sense of self as if each one cleaves off part of us into some alternate timeline that must be maintained.
“It’s all so tiring”.
Our potential that is lost to those refractions is something rarely considered. In my own life I am long haunted by knowing that my lies of yesterday have stolen unknowable treasures from my today and beyond.
As a society those costs aggregate into moral, spiritual, and physical relativism.
Your truth and my truth locked in a forever war to reconcile that which cannot be reconciled until both submit to the truth.
Meanwhile the dissonance grows. The guilt, cynicism, distrust, all that binds us, locked under the floorboards driving us mad as Poe’s beating heart in The Tell-Tale Heart.
The demons who set this whole COVID chapter upon us created a terrible schism in which the lies, the monster, the “fauci”, or any other of the trade names and avatars of the psyop, drew worship and and ire in equal measures, launching fiefdoms of petty bureaucrats and administrators, neighbors literally barking at the moon.
In the schism we constructed both monuments and floorboards, heroes and foils, one big carnival tent of funhouse mirrors, just anything as long as we kept avoiding looking in the mirror to know our part, to build resolve into our own beating hearts.
The show trials, which are no more trials than the cure was safe and effective, will go on as long as we look to the ringmaster for the direction of our gaze.
When the music stops they will show us their way out. It will be through the gift shop. You know better. But most will not. Aways been. Not that it gets easier to accept. Have faith.
Citizen Vigilante time. They won't stop trying until they start dying.
