In Chicago, where I practiced law for some time, despite some laws that strictly prohibit private handgun ownership, gangs and criminals have as many guns as they want, bought on the black market....The only people who ever get in trouble for that are honest white folks....I suspect that it's the same in most cities....to quote Dickens, "the law is an ass."

"It will take a revelation more than a revolution to return to the lives we should be leading. It will take, I’m convinced, some catastrophe as absolutely destructive of any semblance of law and order, a wiping away of organized government to build again on a proper foundation. I say this because it’s not just the state of politics that is wrong, but also the state of the economy, the state of morality, the state of religion (I mean gay pastors praying for Islamification is a step too far), the state of and use of the military, the state of the judiciary, etc. But what will it take?"

----To fulfill your reasonable requirements, the 'revelation' would best start with a revolution sparked by spontaneous combustion; a general agreement on principles understood, not negotiated, similar to the beliefs you share with local Hispanics. By the time people as disparate as we, even in agreement on some important things, cobble together a basis for agreement that would support such action, the State would either snuff us out or have moved on to something impenetrable.
