Can Trump veto a CR? If so, he should and shut this waste, fraud and abuse federal government.

He can and should, but it has some things he wants like an extension of his 2017 tax cuts and an increase in the debt ceiling, which I think he needs to tackle the budget issues. All of it's a mistake, he should hold out signing anything that doesn't reallocate savings to the debt. That alone would almost save the U.S. from disaster.

Lee Vail, the CR is like a wife. She comes with in-laws.

Congress needs to do their Constitutional duty and submit a budget to the President to be approved.

CR’s must be added to the trash heap along with USAID and other wasteful programs/departments/etc.

That was the promise Mike Johnson made in order to be accepted as the Speaker, but quickly abandoned the minute he talked to McConnell and Schumer.

T.L. Anyone who listens to McConnell and Schumer is an idiot, a fool, and a traitor to liberty.

The federal government is dysfunctional. Congress is useless. It gave all its authority to the bureaucrats and the president decades ago.

The only way to rein in the federal government spending is to end the Fed and bring back money backed by gold or silver. Better yet, let the free market determine what money is and end the government's monopoly on determining what money is. End the Legal Tender laws. They are Unconstitutional.

For the above to happen, the American people have to learn the truth and THINK!

I'm not saying I'm optimistic, but if they don't work it out, the dollar will be dead, taking several nations along with it and those wisely invested in metals will determine currency, some of which will be barter, but the catastrophe will shake the entire world, probably followed by regional and global wars. It's not just the U.S.

T.L. You are right. Abraham Lincoln was the President who passed the legal tender laws. The US Supreme Court declared them Unconstitutional. But a few years later, new members came on the court and reversed the previous Supreme Court's decision. That is how we got the legal tender laws.

One more reason to hate Abraham Lincoln.

Very well stated, Mr. Davis. Here's the large question you did not address: how is it so apparent to you and people like me that the government cannot continue to spend as they are, and a CR represents capitulation to the status quo, yet the Congress will not act? The Democrats are going to shut down the government? Hah -- I'll believe it when I see it. They know the last few shutdowns were done by the Republicans, and they lost big time, so I don't see the Democrats trying it this time. I think if we really want to cut federal spending we should threaten to shut down televising of all basketball games until the Congress can write a new budget. I know -- it's easy for me to say that because I have never watched a TV basketball game. But the point is, if we don't threaten the American public with something that really hurts, nothing is gonna happen. Same old same old.

Willful ignorance is all I can suggest.

I do't know for sure, but I tend to think there's a financial return from the perpetual CR's. From lobbyists, at least. Maybe others.

CRs keep the budget from being examined. It extends the current spending on programs and agencies as is, meaning that no one gets a chance to go line by line and decide whether what we're spending our tax dollars on should be extended or cut. The congress doesn't have to do any hard work or actual oversight, so where they're getting their kickbacks and campaigns funded is never exposed.

Hi TL , thanks for another great post! How sure are you that the RFK Jr. confirmation was the result of constituents pressure? I called my Senators but since they are both Democrats my effort produced zip. I haven’t heard back from either of my Senators either. Thanks in advance, Tuor

Thanks for commenting. There shouldn't have needed to be pressure, they should have just voted by party and it would not have been in question. The few Republicans that held the key got bombarded 600 calls a minute and that changed a lot of the dynamics.

Thanks for the reply. I’m glad to hear that the potential traitors saw which way the wind was blowing! God bless all the folks that made the 600 calls per minute!!

Two good reads:

"How to Cut $2 trillion" by David Stockman. It's $3 in Kindle and $11 in print at Amazon.

"How Countries Go Broke" by Ray Dalio, available in pdf for free at: https://economicprinciples.org/how-countries-go-broke

The trick is spending cuts must last for DECADES. Or we can all be Zimbabwe circa 2008.

It's up to US.

Day late & a dollar short as usual these days.

Trump & Musk ought to understand the kind of finance you all are talking about. TBH I do not, one more reason I voted for Trump. Musk & his crew have just scratched the surface & the criminals are screaming bloody murder. Their henchmen judges are doing what we all knew what they were going to do.

Screw the bastards go Andrew Jackson on them now & stomp on the gas. The only way out is through, there will be blood so be it.
