Gabby, I agree. In the West today, it is very expensive and a lot of work to have children. I don't see that changing. The system is set up for low birthrates. I don't see that changing under current conditions.

A medium-size city near me received a federally funded "green" grant to purchase eight new electric school buses. It was heralded with great fan fair in the local 'rag' for days regarding environmental friendliness, sustainability, and cost effectiveness. It required for the city to divest itself of much of its diesel inventory and totally re-tool its maintenance shop and engineer the facility for charging stations. Its pretty much been a disaster but you wouldn't know it because the City is silent about it. Same *S* different day in regard to all the greenie hoopla.
In my view, the USA and the current administration are the last best hope to mitigate a global security state. There are allies who are supportive of this cause, like Milei, Bukele, Meloni, and Orban, but these four are not enough. Not only must we have other leaders, (perhaps like Canada's Poilivere) but above all, it will take an increasing number of Americans willing to kill the deep state, radically reduce spending, keep pressure on the leftist authoritarians, and bear the pain of making things right. Currently, I am more hopeful than I've been in years, but I'm not optimistic. I still fear it will take some catastrophe, be it economic, terroristic, technological, or armed conflict, which will (to paraphrase Samuel Johnson) "concentrate the public's mind wonderfully".
And please, when the talking heads casually talk about spending "a trillion dollars", remember for perspective that A TRILLION SECONDS is over 31,000 years.
